Every photo can be used and is worth saving - either as a digital duplicate in its current condition or fully reconstructed to a “like new” or “better than new” condition.
The water-stained snapshot of you in grade school proudly holding up your first fishing catch (a three inch Sunny) might have a different “historical value” to your family in contrast to the only picture in existence of your dad when he was 19 in his Air Force uniform posing with your mom at 18 in her wedding dress.
Additionally, having original-looking duplicate reprints for each of your siblings can save a lot of family emotion.
